The VA Beach School Board will be voting on a policy that directs the Superintendent to create regulations, practices and trainings that comply with the VDOE Model Policies on Transgender students. While there are some positive items in the document such as anti-bullying policies, there are also policies that take away parental rights and student rights to privacy. VBCPS already has policies in place regarding bullying so there is no need to adopt new ones. The superintendent’s regulations will not require Board approval. Contact the Virginia Beach School Board and let them know how you feel on this topic: vbcpsschoolboard@googlegroups.com. Please also plan to attend the School Board meeting and sign up to speak! More info to come when agenda is published. Here is a summary of the model policies and what will be implemented if this policy passes: STUDENT IDENTIFICATION:
Here is a copy of the proposed policy:

I am a strong believer in the separation of male and female as they are born! I realize the difficulty the transgender and non-binary students will have, but we are created male and female. The focus in the schools must be on education, not on who thinks they're a different sex, and shuffling students into various bathrooms. Keep it simple. Otherwise, it will be a confusing disaster for all, straight and not straight. As I said, keep it simple. Educate the students and keep them safe.

I want VB schools to concentrate on reading, writing, and science skills.Transgenderism and CRT are not going to bring us up from #18 in the world to #1.I honestly pray to be deceased before the Chinese take over the U.S.

Am I understanding correctly that the board is debating on whether to direct the Superintendent to implement policies from state law?

For the fall semester and all future school years I want my grandchildren in the VBSS to be taught academics and only academics: Reading, writing, and, arithmetic; along with science, geography, English, and history; real history. Absolutely no CRT. As far as transgender, My little granddaughter should never have to share a bathroom or locker room with a male. My grandson should never have to share a bathroom or a locker room with a female, period. An entire student body should not have to suffer due to the desires of one, maybe two students. Maybe let the transgender students use the staff bathroom.

I find the state mandated Transgender policies to be problematic and discriminatory towards the vast majority of students. Of specific concern is the application of these policies to ALL students and the implied assumption that the VBCPS is aware of all medical/family related matters and actions by parents. For a school to act on the comments of a 5 year old without the knowledge of a parent is insane!

The proposed revision to policy 5-7 should no be approved. It is the responsibility of the Board to discuss and draft the policy of the board. The model policies described in Va Code 2.2-23.2 are extreme and result in a significant change in the educational and living environment with the city. The Board shall debate and discuss each of the elements of the 2.2-23.2 and in the context of the public discussion develop appropriate polices that do not discriminate or provide special coverage to any portion of the community while respecting the rights of parents. The proposed policy revision should be voted down and Board shall lead this effort.

As the grandmother of a child who identifies within the LGBTQ+ designation, I am shocked by the comments of adults who are clueless to the strength, and courage these children must have to be open about how to be identified, the hardships ahead when faced by the ignorance of adults placing their unsubstantiated fears as stumbling blocks to enforce unidentifiable issues. My child is very focused on their education, they are advanced in school, and has a brilliant future. We are all so humbled by the understanding, patience and tolerance from other students, and staff. They are not a threat to anyone, and have the full support from their family, and school. Threats will not be tolerated, bullying will not be tolerated. Why people think they have a right to put their “beliefs” over the welfare of others is beyond comprehension. These are children, not your personal punching bags, or political pawns.
