Attached is a letter that I sent to my Board colleagues asking they consider my request to reopen our schools. This will be discussed and up for a vote on Tuesday, Dec 1. If you believe our option 1 students should be back in school, please email and call the Board. The only way this will be possible is if the community speaks up. The group email is: vbcpsschoolboard@googlegroups.com and the phone numbers can be found here. You may sign up to speak at this link or call the clerk on Monday: 757-263-1016. https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdMBT94omFTrkIDZlOn1q_wp_I8f4fONlb_go6_UCRG0wvuIg/viewform Sign up in the box next to this blog to receive updates. *user comments on blog posts must have a valid full name and email address or it will not be approved

Maybe if people followed the health mitigations, like not having 26 people to their home for Thanksgiving, then our numbers would go down, and we could re-open the schools.

Maybe people like you should stop living in fear of the sniffles and stop letting the governor trample on our rights to freely assemble. Just keep wearing that cloth mask and be a good little boot-licker.

I absolutely agree, and appreciate your letter and your attempt to get the school board to reconsider. If our kids can attend ballet class, stores, public parks, and even Busch Gardens with every kid from daycare/prek/and Chesapeake public school..than they should be able to get a proper education in the classroom. The statistics don’t back up the school boards decision, and their unwillingness to alter the plan just goes to show their lack of caring about our children’s futures.

My son is suffering from depression according to his pediatrician. His school grades reflect this.. He will be starting therapy this week due to political decisions and fictitious stats. Please do not allow our youth to suffer any longer. These students desperately need to be in the classroom learning!

I wish public schools were as safe from covid as private schools. But we know priveilege is for the well funded. I know sarcasm helps no one - but what's the agenda here? The science does NOT back your stance. Option 2 parents aren't hurt one bit by those who want their kids back in school - which is the advice of actual experts. Preschool, day cafe, open. High school kids, they're hanging out all the time and have been since March. Be realistic and stop playing partisans bully tactics in your board meetings against the minority. What's your end game? You're not MDs and you're following old science, constantly proven false.
